When planning your trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, it is important to keep several key information in mind:
Check the visa requirements and make sure you have all the necessary documents to enter the country. Many visitors do not need a visa, but it is essential to confirm details based on your nationality.
To travel to the event we suggest coming through the Las Américas International Airport – AILA airport which is located in Boca Chica about 35 km from the event venue (45 minutes -1 hour and 15 minutes of time by taxi or private transportation, THERE IS NO A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION to get from the airport to the city), if you arrive through Punta Cana (Punta Cana International Airport) you should consider taking a taxi (they must be those authorized by the airport, since Uber access to the airport is not allowed ) to the bus stop ( Expreso Bávaro or Transporte APTPRA) and this trip will take between 2.5 to 3 hours to the city of Santo Domingo, it is very important if you come through Punta Cana that the flight arrives at times that you can take in the bus on time or otherwise consider sleeping in Punta Cana or Bávaro.
Currency: The official currency is the Dominican peso (DOP) . Make sure you know the exchange rate and keep in mind that some credit cards may not be accepted everywhere, so it’s helpful to carry cash.
In some tourist places they can take dollars, but for the most part the exchange will be more expensive than usual.
Currently the rate is 1 dollar for 56 Dominican pesos (it varies constantly).
The event will take place at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University – UNPHU, located at km 7.5 Av. John F. Kennedy, Santo Domingo. Within the city we recommend using UBER as the safest platform to get around the city.
Within walking distance of the event there are several hotels and it is reliable to use AIRBNB (between $25-100 per night, for 1-4 people).
Health: Drink bottled water.
Language: The official language is Spanish. Learning some basic phrases can make communication easier, although many locals in tourist areas speak English.
Electricity: Standard voltage is 110V, with type A and B plugs. Be sure to bring adapters if necessary.
Culture and Customs: Respect local traditions and culture. It is common to greet with a handshake, a hug, a kiss on the cheek, and show courtesy when interacting with residents.
